Bao Shan Jing Library is a Chinese library open to the public, operated by the Chinese Civic Center. The mission of Bao Shan Jing Library is twofold: to provide cultural, informational, and educational services to the Chinese American community and interested parties; to promote culture diversity and mutual understanding between the American community and other ethnic communities in the greater Houston area.

Currently, Bao Shan Jing Library holds over 50,000 Chinese language titles including different types of format such as books, periodicals, music CDs, videos and DVD/VCDs. The library has issued over 1,200 library cards to users since its opening in 1999.

The majority of people who frequent Houston Civic Center are of Chinese descendents from Mainland China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao, Thailand, Hong Kong, and other Southeast Asia areas. Many of them are new immigrants who speak little English. Bao Shan Jing Library is often the first place they interact with others and find information for their new life in America. Seniors and youth account for the majority of these groups.

The library also serves American people who are interested in Chinese culture and seek information to learn more about China. The library has become an informational hub for American entrepreneurs who seek information for a better understanding of Chinese culture, people, government, and business procedures to enhance their success in doing business with China.
